Having started fourth, the Pett-based driver passed South African polesitter Raoul Hyman as the race at Brands Hatch reached its climax.

It resulted in a dream one-two for Sean Walkinshaw Racing with Matty Graham coming out on top. It was the first time this season that any team had provided the first two drivers in any one race.

Eighteen-year-old Barlow began the weekend with a fifth place finish in the opening race on Saturday, with the one-two coming in the second event. In race three, Barlow climbed from 10th on the grid to finish sixth after advancing two places on the first lap and one more on the second tour.

It wasn’t all plain sailing, however, as the noise restrictions placed on the track meant he was reduced to limited practice before qualifying.

“Qualifying didn’t go to plan and I made some mistakes,” Barlow admitted. “But I was delighted to finish in a one-two alongside Matty. It was a great result for the team. It was a struggle to overtake Hyman for a while, but when I eventually did on the last lap, it was an excellent way to finish.”

Barlow has moved into the top four in the drivers’ standings, just 10 points shy of third spot with a total of 239 from the 15 races so far. Although the championship is close with nine races remaining, Barlow conceded winning it will be an extremely tough task.

“We’ll have to work really hard,” he added. “But a top three finish would be amazing.” Highlights of the meeting will be televised on ITV 4 on Sunday from 6pm.
