Bexhill avoid points deduction

RELEGATION threatened Bexhill Town escaped a three-point deduction at a Sussex County league hearing on Friday (February 22).

Town were hit with a 15 fine and the points deduction for playing youngster Danny Beecroft when he was supposedly signed on for Eastbourne Borough.

But Beecroft had no idea he was under contract and it was discovered that the authorisation had been made by the wrong person.

Sussex County League honorary secretary Paul Beard said: "It appears a signature was incorrect on the registration so we upheld the appeal." Bexhill are now second from bottom, just one point ahead of Uckfield Town who have five games in hand over them. The teams meet on Saturday March 2.

With six clubs from the feeder leagues applying for County status next season Town desperately need to pull themselves out of the bottom two relegation zone.

Richard Booth is to become the fourth player to join an exodus to Shinewater Association since Gary Light's appointment as manager.

Former manager Gary Simpson, Rob Warner and keeper Dave Browning have all joined the second division side.
