Bexhill change manager yet again

BILLY TRIVETT says that a "major influx of players" is his principal objective after Bexhill United changed their manager for the eighth time in the last 32 months.

Last season's physio cum-match day steward won a committee vote over predecessor Tony Monk at the club's Annual General Meeting for the right to preside over their 2004-05 Sussex Division Three campaign.

Trivett, who took caretaker charge of the side for two games in between the reigns of Len Watkins and Monk during November, wrote in a statement: "A major influx of new players to strengthen both the first team and the reserves is my first priority. A club with these facilities should be pushing for promotion not languishing near the bottom year after year. The club has done nothing since winning the League Cup four years ago and it is about time the winning ways returned."

If the glory days are to return to a success-starved Polegrove one area that needs to be addressed, which chairman Dave Harris acknowledged in his statement, is that of training. And the recruitment of the well-respected and notoriously strict-disciplined Jack Dalton to go alongside former Millwall player and youngsters' coach Bob Langton cannot fail to transform ailing attendances while fitness certainly won't be a problem either.

Many of the anticipated fresh faces are likely to have their best days ahead of them because young players and, specifically, a closer connection to the Bexhill Town youth set-up are also high on the wish list. The culmination of this is expected to lie in the formation of an under-18s outfit in the near future.

The latest plan for success will be supported by Monk in spite of his natural dissatisfaction at his failure to be re-elected. He said: "I'm disappointed that I didn't get the job but it was democratic and there was no animosity. It was very enjoyable and we had some good performances while I was there. Going down there mid-season I didn't know the players but the response was excellent and we pulled the club around."

The outgoing boss was also thanked by Bexhill United who, according to Harris' statement have "a few things in the pipeline for next season" with regard to facilities, for his "outstanding contribution in keeping the club in the County League".

The first training session will take place at the Polegrove on Thursday July 2 from 7.30pm. All of last year's squad plus any newcomers are welcome to attend.
