THE 44th Bexhill Ladies' Open Bowls Tournament reached an entertaining conclusion in the sunshine at the Polegrove Greens on Sunday.
Home bowler Lyndsey Hodd, 23, lifted the ladies' singles title with a 21-8 defeat of Helen Jennings (Sidley Martlets), going one better than last year when she finished runner-up.
The honours are coming thick and fast for the Polegrove Ladies ace because she is due to represent Sussex in the under-31s Amy Rose Bowl and in the under-25s pairs at the National Championships at Leamington Spa.
The ladies' pairs final was an all-Eastbourne match with Eastbourne Ladies duo Rachael Mackreill and Jean Baulcombe beating Val Butler and Elaine Connor of Fishermen's 26-4. The mixed pairs saw Joan Jones (Saffrons) and Phil Palmer (Eastbourne) triumph 21-13 against the Hailsham partnership of Rose Riggs and Alan Rowden.
Next year's tournament will be from July 30 to August 4. For entry forms contact 734335 or 842090.
There is still plenty of action on the greens with the 69th Bexhill Men's Open Bowls Tournament in full swing at the Polegrove. The finals of the singles, pairs and triples are due to be played tomorrow (Saturday).
Polegrove Ladies claimed a fine 49-15 win over Fishbourne Ladies in the final of the County Double Rink Competition.
The rink of Doris Wickenden, Cherrie Stephens, Lorraine Hume and Ann Moore triumphed 22-10, while the quartet of Margaret Adcock, Mary Bray, Mary Williams and Denise Hodd clinched a 27-5 success.
