Big night of boxing on cards

Another night of hard-hitting boxing action lies in prospect tomorrow (Saturday).

Hollington Community Centre will again be the venue for West Hill Boxing Club’s second show of the season and around 15 bouts are scheduled to take place, although as always that could change depending on withdrawals.

Jake Towse is set to make his long-awaited ring return, while Barry Farthing will be out to maintain the unbeaten start to his career. Other West Hill seniors matched are Maris Bauges, Steve Garlick and Matt McDonnell.

The show will also include the Sussex rounds of the Southern Counties Junior Novice Championships, and West Hill boys Ethan Fuller, Jake Rekert, Callum Wood, Josh Hopkins, Tom Borthwick and Harry Baker are all entered.

It may well turn out that some of those West Hill juniors won’t be required to box in the championships, but matchmaker John Verlander will try to get them bouts in any case.

Verlander has also fixed up a number of cross-matches. Doors will open at 7.30pm and the boxing will get underway from 8pm. Admission is £10 for adults, and £5 for over-65s and under-14s.

Connor Sime is due to line-up in the Junior ABA Championships in Aldershot the following day. Two other boxers are scheduled to be in Sime’s weight so the draw will dictate whether he needs to win one match or two.
