Special night of boxing

The town’s finest ever boxers will dust off their gloves for a special exhibition night today (Saturday).

Saturday, 9th April 2011, 1:30 pm

Seven-time national champion Brian Robinson and three-time national champion Freddie Frewin will be among those at the Silverhill Club in an event hosted by the Hastings Ex-Boxers Association.

Dave Bishop, Trevor Bloomfield, George Doolan, Joey Ellis, Dave Harris, Joey Lee, Paul Martin, Micky Richford, Lee Salmon, Gary Smith, Bertie Symes and Bert Wilders are also scheduled to appear from 7.30pm.

All of them will be doing some pad work to help raise funds for the Hastings Ex-Boxers Association, which helps boxers who have fallen on hard times and local charities such as the Oliver Curd Trust.

Sold out within a week of tickets going on sale, the show will be filmed by Glenn Veness, who produced the I Love This Town film about Hastings Old Town. A copy will be given to Hastings Museum and others will be on sale. The evening will be rounded-off with a karaoke.
