Toby Salmon won the under-46kg category for boys born in 2001 at the Hull Box Cup, which was open to schoolboy and junior boxers aged 11-15 from the UK and Europe.

Salmon faced tough opponents in each round. He beat a semi-finalist in this year’s Schoolboy Championships and then defeated the Irish champion, Michael Myers, of Dublin-based Crumlin Boxing Club, in a hard-fought final to claim his gold medal.

Bayley Atkin and Liam Holden boxed well against very good opponents to win silver medals. Will Badrock, George Filkins and Elliott Hedger were all semi-finalists, with Ethan Salmon losing out in the quarter-finals to the eventual winner.

Also on Saturday, Kyla Verlander and Belinda Skinner were victorious in a female ‘London v South of England’ tournament, which was screened live on ‘London Live TV’ from Grove Park.

Verlander took an impressive unanimous points decision in her very first full contest and Skinner kept her unbeaten record in tact by winning on a split decision.

Five more West Hill talents stepped in the ring at Bexhill ABC’s first open show on Saturday evening and four of them came away with wins.

Richard Harffey and Brandon Davis won on unanimous points decisions, Rhys Verlander prevailed on a split decision and Nathan Stent won by TKO. Ben White lost out in a shot at the vacant Southern Counties Championship belt after a gruelling contest.
