Challenge match gets go ahead

THE long-awaited Bexhill Observer Charity Shield contest between Sidley United and Bexhill United is all set to go ahead after the match received the backing of the Sussex FA.

Bexhill chairman Dave Harris, who came up with the original idea of the match, has been in contact with Sussex League deputy chairman Peter Bentley and says the governing body for the county game has no qualms with the game taking place.

Harris said: "I have spoken to Peter Bentley and he sees no problems at the moment although he said he's got a backlog of games. It looks as though we are on."

The game, however, will have to be switched from the provisional date of Wednesday April 16 as Sidley have a league game the previous night.

Meanwhile, the Rose & Crown pub in Turkey Road will enjoy the honour of sponsoring the match ball after stomping up over 200 to the cause.
