Conquerors faced the London Blitz on a hot and sunny Sunday afternoon at Conqueror Field, and although they lost 71-0, the day was considered a real success.

Club chairman Chris Chillingworth said: “I was so proud. We got our pads and lids in November last year so it’s only been six months. We now have our very own pitch in Hastings and so who better to invite down for our first ever match than the mighty London Blitz.

“Their coaches explained to us that due to lack of numbers, they had to field a number of first teamers to make up the numbers, some of whom had only recently returned from their European Championship game in Paris.

“So the score was a tremendous success as far as we were concerned. It’s just a shame we didn’t put points on the board, but we were so close on several occasions. We just didn’t have that experience to cope with certain situations. We learnt a lot as a club, though, both on and off the field.

“Setting up our first gameday was an experience and the 150 people who attended the game to support Hastings’ new American football club was such an amazing sight to see.”

Aaron Jones received the special team’s MVP, James Pettit picked up the defensive MVP award, Richard Bames got the offensive MVP and Sam Oldfield took the overall game MVP. The MVP awards were sponsored by Commando Fitness UK.

Conquerors will travel to Brighton on Sunday June 15 to face Sussex Thunder in an associate game which forms part of the club’s application to join the National League System for 2015.
