Cornish vows to make changes

South Saxons Hockey Club captain Paddy Cornish plans to ring the changes for the visit of Crowborough tomorrow (Saturday, 1.30pm).

Cornish plans to drop goalkeeper George Deaves, plus senior outfield players Julian Buss and Dom Ford. Quentin Wedmore is expected to make his first team debut in goal, while Tim Hayward and Toby Reed are set to return. Cornish also plans to change the 2-3-2-3 formation.

He said: “I’ve made some changes this week; not just in personnel but formation as well. They were difficult decisions to make because I get on with all three of them (Deaves, Buss and Ford) quite well. I didn’t really want to have to do it, but it stood out on Saturday that changes needed to be made.

“It could’ve been five or six people to be honest. For those players that didn’t get dropped who probably could’ve been, I’m hoping it will give them a bit of a wake-up call. I think there’s a few people that think they’re better than they are and I’m hoping we’ll get a good reaction this week.”
