Council slammed over pitch policy

HASTINGS Borough Council has been slammed over its policy of calling off parks football fixtures more than two days before they are due to be played.

The Hastings & East Sussex Sunday League programme was decimated for the third weekend running when the authority made its decision at 9am on Friday.

Unfortunately, the weekend was fine and by Sunday playing conditions were perfect.

League honorary secretary Robin Powell said: "I do think the council has to alter its approach in how it deems the pitches so unplayable so long before a game. It s unfair the clubs pay the money and they don t get the service."

"Brighton, Worthing and Crawley played because they make their pitch inspections as late as they can or leave it to the league."

The authority bases its decision on the condition of the pitches, weekend weather forecast and number of matches to be played.
