County medals for young swimmers

BEXHILL and Hastings Swimmers representing Smith's Swimming Squad, Eastbourne, brought back four silver medals from the Sussex County Age Group Relays held at Crawley.

In the girls 13/14 years freestyle, Kerri Morgan, Jo Pickard, Rachel Lawton and Natasha Holt were just edged out by Haywards Heath into second place. Jo, Rachel and Natasha were then joined by Emilie Whitmore to clinch a silver in the medley team, again just edged out by Haywards Heath.

The boys 15/16 years freestyle and medley team of James Lawton, Kevin Pickard, Andrew Morgan & Edward Pitt had to settle for two silvers, behind a very strong Crawley team.Their results helped Smiths Swim Squad to finish eighth club in Sussex at the relay gala.

Natasha Holt, Kevin Pickard and Sarah Richard travelled to Southampton to represent Sussex Schools where they were competing against Hampshire and Dorset. Natasha recorded 29.32 in the 50m freestyle (junior) with Sarah swimming 30.07 in the same event, and Kevin recording 26.54 in the 50m freestyle (intermediate). Natasha also recorded 1.10.89 in the 100m butterfly (junior) and 1.12.35 in the 100m backstroke (junior). Sussex finished in second place on 224 points, behind Hampshire 255 but ahead of Dorset 179.
