Bexhill eyeing survival

Ian Cox believes that “two or three more wins” could be enough for Bexhill Cricket Club to stay up.

Bexhill moved from bottom to seventh in the Sussex Premier League courtesy of victories over Hastings Priory and the Sussex Development XI last weekend.

The Polegrove-based club is now 22 points above the two relegation places at the midway stage of the season.

First team coach Cox said: “It was a massive weekend. We’re halfway through the season and we’re not in the relegation zone. We’ve won three out of four in the league, plus a T20 win.

“Two or three more wins and that could potentially be enough as long as we do alright in the other games. You would be unlucky to go down with 250 points, but we know we’ve got a massive amount of work to do. We just hope we can keep a little bit of a roll going.

“We’re bowling well and fielding well - I’ve got no concerns over that - and some key figures are coming into form. Haff (Johnathan Haffenden) is scoring some runs and I thought Saturday was a key innings for Shawn (Johnson).”

With Callum Guest available, Bexhill should be around full strength for the trip to fourth-placed Horsham tomorrow. Bexhill face a selection dilemma in the slow bowling department with four spinners vying for places.
