Cox not worried by gap to top two

Bexhill first team coach Ian Cox insists he is not worried by his side losing ground in the promotion race.

Cox maintains that Bexhill’s fate is still well within their own hands even though they now trail Goring-by-Sea - who occupy the second and final promotion place from Sussex Cricket League Division Two - by 20 points with six games to go.

Goring beat St James’s Montefiore last weekend, while Bexhill could only manage a draw at home to Findon. Leaders Eastbourne are 36 points above Bexhill despite being held to a draw by Ifield.

“It’s in our hands,” Cox said. “We’re capable of beating both the sides above us. If we can do that, then I’m confident we have it in us to be up there come the end of the campaign.”

Bexhill travel to second-bottom Glynde & Beddingham tomorrow (Saturday), with a draw no good for either side.

“It’ll suit us to play a team who need to win the match,” Cox continued. “We struggled last week against Findon but Glynde need the win to ease their relegation worries. That could help us as we will certainly be going all out for the victory, as usual.”

Bexhill currently sit on 268 points heading into the final third of the season. In 2011, when they last gained promotion to the Premier League, they ended the campaign on 348 points - just one short of champions Worthing.
