Pavitt has turned in a series of superb performances in matches in which most players have been male this season. Her little piece of history came as her Hailsham third XI side played Rottingdan.

On yet another wonderful day of weather, Hailsham chose to bat. Captain Warren Downs was hoping for a big innings from the team – and got exactly that. Openers Jason Wickham and Robin Sewell (1) started ticking the scoreboard over nicely until Sewell (1) was bowled.

That sent in Ollie Brett, who looked like he was not planning on seeing out the full 40 overs. While Wickham (14) batted very well, Brett (33) was intent on sending evert delivery to the boundary. After Brett was bowled, in came Bobby Williams (4) who failed to make an impact.

Skipper Downs came to the crease and immediately set about tearing the opposition apart with a very quick 47. Other than this there were not many runs scored by the lower order, besides a cameo partnership from Brad Aldridge (16) and Ethan Hele (15*).

After the break Hailsham took to the field confident they could defend their 147 total. Opening the bowling, Masie Harris (0/14 off four overs) and Bobby Williams (0/15 off five) couldn’t find the breakthrough. They were replaced by Brett (1/29 off seven overs) and Ethan Dawber 2/11 off five).

All four bowlers bowled incredible lines but didn’t make nearly as much of an impact as Pavitt. She bowled exactly where she needed to with good variations and tempted the batsmen into some risky shots. Her consistent bowling resulted in her getting the first five-wicket hall from a female cricketer for Hailsham Cricket Club.

A spokesman for the club said: “It’s a magnificent milestone for KP, one which she has worked hard for.” Not surprisingly, Pavitt was named player of the match.
