Iden nine ahead after draw

Iden are nine points clear in the East Sussex Cricket League after drawing with second-placed Ditchling on Saturday.

Phil Shanks scored a magnificent 118 not out as Division One leaders Iden totalled 200-8 batting first. The hosts got to 170-6 in reply with two wickets each for Mark Kitching and Michael White.

Battle are second in Division Two after narrowly missing out on victory at Hailsham. Mike Gedye top-scored with 40 in the visitors’ total of 243-6 and four bowlers took two wickets as Hailsham hung on at 190-9.

Fourth-placed Rye won by seven wickets away to Robertsbridge. Craig Pierce and Sandun Dias took three wickets each to bowl Robertsbridge out for 130 and Rye got home in 35.5 overs.

In Division Four, Little Common Ramblers lost away to Firle and Pett went down at Rottingdean seconds. Full reports will appear in Friday’s Observers.
