New cricket season is upon us

Although recent weather suggests it isn’t quite time for people to don their cricket whites just yet, Hastings Priory will be doing exactly that as they take on Tunbridge Wells in their first friendly on Saturday.

The first team will be at its Horntye Park home, while the seconds will travel up the A21 for the reciprocal fixture. Both matches are due to start at 12.30pm.

Priory’s pre-season calendar continues next weekend with a trip to Glynde & Beddingham on Saturday before hosting Bromley in round one of the ECB National Club Championship the following day. Their Sussex Premier League schedule kicks-off on Saturday May 4 when they will host East Grinstead.

After three cancelled pre-season net sessions, the club finally trained outdoors on Tuesday evening and vice-captain John Morgan was pleased with the turnout. “It was good to get together,” Morgan said. “The key thing now is getting some match practice in and getting going.”

Sussex Division Two new boys Crowhurst Park, meanwhile, are having difficulty with their ground thanks to the elements so their friendly against Rottingdean tomorrow has been changed to a combined first and second team fixture at the home of their opponents.
