Priory confident ahead of Nomads clash

Nomads have won the Sussex Cricket League title for the last three years and four of the last five, but they trail Priory by two points after the first four games this time around.

Priory captain Adam Maharaj-Newman said: “I definitely think we can beat them and I think all the boys believe we can beat them. We’re well up for it and we couldn’t go in with confidence any higher.”

A cracking contest lies in prospect at Horntye Park Sports Complex with Priory having picked up the full house of 120 points so far and Nomads just behind on 118.

Priory, in fact, were the only Sussex League club to beat Nomads last summer when a 41-run victory away to the Fulking-based outfit helped ease any relegation concerns.

Andy Cornford is set to undergo a fitness test after pulling up against East Grinstead two weeks ago, while Jack Parsons is poised to make his league debut.

Parsons’ presence would add to Priory’s wealth of options in the spin bowling department which, as usual on the often spin-friendly Horntye Park wickets, could prove crucial tomorrow.

“We’re both quite evenly matched and a lot will come down to who’s the better team on the day,” added Maharaj-Newman. Play will start at 12.30pm.
