Priory face Eastbourne in T20 cup derby

Hastings Priory will take on neighbours Eastbourne in their first competitive game of the new cricket season.

The local rivals will meet at Horntye Park in a Gray-Nicolls Sussex T20 Cup first round tie at Horntye Park tomorrow (Saturday). Play is due to start at 1pm.

Priory captain John Morgan said: “We’re looking forward to it. This and the national (cup) will be a bonus - they’re not our main focus for the season - but we’ll take it seriously and you want to get into winning habits.”

Morgan is uanavailable tomorrow so the returning Elliot Hooper will captain Sussex Division Two side Priory against Premier League team Eastbourne.

Priory will go into the game off the back of a four-wicket friendly victory away to league new boys Mayfield last weekend.

Jed O’Brien took 4-9 and bowled superbly in tandem with Jack Coleman as Mayfield were all out for 170 batting first.Mick Glazier claimed 3-6 from eight balls at the end.

Priory knocked off the runs for the loss of six wickets with Jack Colley hitting 38 and Ted Smith - who Priory are hoping to transfer from Eastbourne - making 56.

Priory are away to Bexhill in the Sussex 2nd XI T20 Cup tomorrow from noon.
