Sidley rocked by King injury

Sidley look like being without Peter King for their promotion run-in.

The in-form all-rounder is expected to miss Sidley’s final two Sussex Cricket League Division Three (East) matches after tearing a calf muscle in the defeat at Uckfield Anderida last weekend.

Sidley captain Scott Woodroffe said: “We’ve probably lost Kingy for the rest of the season. It’s a huge blow for us because not only was he coming in to a bit of form with the bat, he’s been bowling as well as he ever has.”

The left-handed batsman and right-arm swing bowler had scored 137 runs (top-scoring twice) and taken 12 wickets (including six in the win over Crowhurst Park) in Sidley’s three matches immediately prior to last weekend.

Five clubs still have a shot at top spot and with it promotion to Division Two. Just 16 points separate leaders Hellingly and fifth-placed Lindfield with Sidley 11 off the pace in fourth.

Having lost their last two fixtures, Sidley can afford no more slip-ups tomorrow (Saturday) when they host an Ansty side which has come from nowhere up to second place by winning four and drawing one of its last five contests.

Woodroffe went on: “I suppose it’s a last chance saloon on Saturday. We’ve been fortunate the last couple of weeks the other results have gone our way, but I can’t see the other sides all slipping up again.

“Even losing Kingy, I think we’re still good enough to beat most sides.” Neil Priddy is expected to return in place of King. Play starts at 12noon.
