Sidley target champion finish

Scott Woodroffe believes Sidley must win at least three of their last five matches to be crowned champions.

Sidley are three points clear at the top of Sussex Cricket League Division Three (East), but with the top four covered by just 17 points and two of the other three having a game in hand, the title is very much up for grabs.

Woodroffe, Sidley’s captain, said: “If we try and look to win at least three games out of the five, you would hope we would be there or thereabouts.

“But we’ve said all season really that the division’s so close, there’s so many teams that can beat each other and there’s been so many surprise results.”

Sidley and second-placed Hellingly both lost last weekend, but Hellingly are the only team currently in the top five that Sidley still have to play.

With Sidley’s final two fixtures at home to sixth-placed Ansty and second-bottom Keymer & Hassocks, they will be confident of doing the business if they gain a healthy haul of points from the next three away contests.

The first of them is a local derby against Crowhurst Park tomorrow (Saturday). Park are in seventh place having won four and lost six of their 10 completed matches, and Sidley beat them by eight wickets at Gullivers in May.

After three wins in as many completed matches to move up to fourth in Division Two, Bexhill are on their free week.
