Sussex Cricket League round-up: Division Three title is won
Bognor Regis have been crowned champions of Sussex Cricket League Division Three with two games to spare.
The clear leaders clinched the title on the back of a two-wicket win at home to Burgess Hill yesterday (Saturday) - their 14th victory in 16 matches.
Burgess Hill made 211-8 after being asked to bat thanks largely to an unbeaten 111 from Tom Trowbridge. Joe Ashmore took 4-35 for Bognor, who scraped home in reply with Zayne Bux 59 not out.
Crawley Eagles appear likely to claim the second promotion place despite losing another tight game by five runs at home to Portslade.
Ian Wainwright top-scored with 48 not out as Portslade totalled 200-9 having been invited to bat, Imran Mehboob taking 6-60. Eagles were all out for 195 with four balls to spare even though Fazlan Nizamdeem hit 73. Steven Case claimed 5-62.
Chichester Priory Park kept their outside top two hopes alive by dint of an 81-run triumph away to bottom-of-the-table Glynde & Beddingham.
Chichester were all out for 174 batting first, with Daniel Joseph making 37 and Mike Brooks picking up 4-23. Joseph completed a good day with 4-25 as Glynde were skittled for 93 in reply.
Like Glynde, second-bottom Rottingdean are teetering on the brink of relegation following an eight-wicket defeat away to third-bottom Haywards Heath, who are now within sight of safety.
Rottingdean were all out for 137 batting first despite George Ledden making 66. Josiah Menzies claimed four wickets for Heath, who comfortably knocked off the runs with Isaac Leckie 57 not out.
In the division’s other game, Steyning won by 31 runs away to Goring-By-Sea. Oliver Watkins took 5-25 to help bowl Steyning out for 147 despite 51 from Hywel Jones. But Goring could only manage 116 in reply, with Stephen Chimhamhiwa and Luke Chapman chalking up four wickets apiece.
