Date set for Charity Shield match

THE Bexhill Observer Charity Shield between Sidley United and Bexhill United has been arranged for Wednesday April 6 at Gullivers.

And the contest, which was originally due to take place last Wednesday, is being billed by both clubs as Bexhill's best chance in the three year history of the event to upset the form book.

Bexhill have been beaten 5-0 and 3-0 in the two previous stagings, but have just earned promotion from Sussex Division Three while Sidley are battling to stave off relegation from Sussex Division One.

Sidley chairman, Dickie Day, said: "It's definitely Bexhill's best chance of beating Sidley. I personally don't think they will, but it is a big chance for them. They've got to beat us some time, though, because we've beaten them twice in this and in the veterans!"

Bexhill reserve team manager Chas Tibbutt added: "I'm looking forward to it and we've got as good a chance as any year."

The match, which should see Bexhill boys Wes Tate, Lee Fletcher, Mark Funnell, Sam Thompson and Dave Carey plus Sidley's Dan Antink line-up against their former clubs, kicks-off at 7.45pm and Sidley's normal admission prices apply.
