Davis stuns former World Champion

Mark Davis stunned the 2010 World Snooker Champion in his own back yard today (Thursday).

The in-form St Leonards player saw off Neil Robertson 5-1 in round two of the Australian Goldfields Open in Bendigo.

Robertson rattled through the opening frame without conceding a point, but it was all Davis thereafter. The world number 18 came from behind to win frame two and comfortably took the third to go in front.

Davis went 3-1 up at the interval with the aid of a half-century break and an 80+ run in the first frame after the resumption extended his advantage.

The 39-year-old sealed victory by comfortably winning frame six. He will take on 16th-ranked Martin Gould in the quarter-finals tomorrow.

Davis is enjoying a fantastic start to the 2012/13 World Snooker season having reached his first ever full ranking event semi-final at the Wuxi Classic in China two weeks ago and won the Six Red World Championship in Thailand last weekend.
