Davis Trump-ed by Judd

Mark Davis was knocked out of the China Open after a 5-2 defeat to Judd Trump on Thursday morning.

The St Leonards cueman, ranked 20th in the world, ultimately paid the price for losing the opening three frames of the second round tie against 25th-ranked Trump.

Rising star Trump compiled breaks of 69 to win the first 76-17 and the second 69-20 before a 40 gave him the third 73-24. Davis got himself on the scoreboard by coming through a long fourth 63-42 with a top run of 33.

Trump cleared from blue to black to edge the fifth 74-72 after Davis had picked up 25 points in fouls, but Davis potted the final four balls to pinch the sixth 57-55 and stay alive at 4-2.

A 42 put Davis in charge of the seventh only for Trump to take it 64-43 with runs of 33 and 24, repeating his victory over 2009 Six Reds World Champion Davis in the Snooker Shoot-Out earlier this year.

The result marks the end of the season for 38-year-old Davis, who beat world no.7 Stephen Maguire 5-3 in round one, because he failed to qualify for next month’s Betfred.com World Snooker Championship.
