DYSON'S DESPAIR

JEFF Dyson resigned as Bexhill Town manager amid claims that he had been let down by the players.

Dyson, who only took over in the summer, stepped down less than a month into the new football season.

The upheaval comes in the wake of an awful start to the campaign in which the Green Machine picked up just a single point from their opening five fixtures to leave them rooted to the foot of the Sussex County League.

Dyson had been given two more matches to get a win but decided to leave before Saturday s clash with fellow strugglers Lingfield.

He said: There hasn t been a falling out, but there were a few little things I wasn t happy about.

In the main I felt let down by some of the players as they didn t bother turning up for training and matches and wouldn t even ring me to let me know.

After our 5-0 defeat the previous week you d have thought they would want to get back on the training pitch to sort things out but only eight players showed up and only four of those were in the first team.

Town continued their losing streak on Saturday with a 2-0 defeat away to Lingfield.

But Dyson claimed the club was always going to struggle at the start of the season.

I spoke to the committee and said we would suffer for six games and then things would pick up and we d be looking at a mid-table finish.

But then I had a meeting with the chairman on Tuesday (last week) and he told me I had two games to get a win before he brought someone else in so I felt a bit of undue pressure and decided to walk before pushed.

Dyson has also left the club as a player, ending a three-year spell with Town.

Last season s manager Mark Simpson resumes control of the team in a caretaking role.

Chairman Del Longley said: Jeff decided to leave as the results haven t been very good.

But we have a talented young squad and we just need a win to get our confidence up.

We just need to concentrate on the games ahead of us starting with Franklands Village where a draw away from home will be a very good result.

Dyson, who coaches at the Brighton School of Excellence, is looking to get involved with a new club in the Eastbourne area.
