Excellent run ends in national last eight

Egerton Park Indoor Bowls Club’s excellent run in a national ladies’ team competition has come to an end.

The Bexhill-based club was beaten 82-62 by Honiton in the quarter-finals of the Yetton Plate at Riverside IBC, Winchester, on Saturday.

A club spokesman said: “It was very close until the last four ends when Honiton pulled away from us. Nevertheless, Egerton have had an excellent run and the ladies have played really well.”

Individual rink results: Jo Morris, Alice Phillimore, Doris Wickenden, Mandy Carrie won 18-15; Emma Cooper, Di Stone, Nina Allbut, Di Carpenter lost 16-30; Jean Noble, Doreen Hough, Marje Hendle, Jan Pilcher lost 16-21; Roma Dalby, Joanna Watt, Denise Hodd, Lyndsey Jamison lost 12-15.

Honiton’s reward for beating 2013 runners-up Egerton is a semi-final against Tye Green next weekend. Doncaster and Beccles will meet in the other last four tie.

Egerton recorded comfortably the most emphatic victory of anybody in the last 16 with a stunning 102-33 thrashing of Dorchester. They defeated Victory 77-72, Preston 86-74 and Horsham 100-60 in the earlier rounds.

In other club news, Jo Morris is through to the National Ladies’ Singles Finals at Melton Mowbray, while Pauline Forrester and Di Carpenter lost the zone final in the National Ladies’ Pairs after a very good run up to that stage.
