The Father’s Day offering will consist of a sprint triathlon and an aquathlon for adults, as well as aquathlon races for children.

The sprint triathlon, open to competitors aged 16-plus and starting at 8.15am, will consist of a 750m lake swim, 20k bike and 5k run.

The run will take place over a new flatter course, which is ideal for any level of triathlete. There will be cash prizes for the top three male and female finishers.

The sprint triathlon will be followed at 10.30am by the children’s aquathlons for boys and girls aged 8-16. These aquathlons, which include a novice event to encourage children into the multi-sport world, are made up of a swim followed by a run and distances vary according to the age of the competitors.

A team of water safety staff and swimmers will be on hand to help every child. The adult aquathlon - comprising a 750m swim and 5,000m run - will complete the morning’s racing.

Event spokesman Paul Holdaway, who has been racing and coaching for 15 years, said: “This new day is an ideal opportunity for the whole family to be racing and supporting each other in one day of multi-sport in a stunning location.

The second part of the 2016 Sussex Triathlon will take place on Sunday September 18. That will feature a sprint triathlon, standard triathlon and middle distance triathlon.
