Five mile race set for the off

THE seventh annual Keith Chandler Memorial Five Mile Road Race will take centre stage on Sunday.

An exciting event looks to be on the cards due to a particularly strong contingent of veteran men.

Last year the winner was last minute entrant Todd Leckie who broke the course record with a time of 25 minutes and 16 seconds.

Entry numbers are on a par with last year and a field of around 400 is expected to line-up for the start outside Hastings Town Hall at 10.30am.

Thirty different clubs will be taking part this year with Wadhurst, Seaford and Hailsham being particularly well represented along with many Hastings Runners.

People can still enter at the town hall today by 9.45am. Entry costs £15 (subject to availability).

The run will head out onto the seafront along the promenade before returning to the town hall for the finish. Completely flat, the course is suitable for slow joggers and those wanting to clock a fast time.

All proceeds from the event will go to St Michael’s Hospice.
