Another busy night of football

It’s set to be another busy Tuesday night of football with four of the area’s senior clubs in action.

Three of the games are taking place in Bexhill and two of them are county cup quarter-finals.

Sidley United host Shoreham in the last eight of the Sussex County League John O’Hara League Cup, while Little Common entertain high-flying East Preston at the same stage of the Sussex RUR Charity Cup.

Both Sidley are Shoreham will be on something of a high having ended winless runs at the weekend. A tight game is in prospect with Sidley ahead of Shoreham on goal difference in the Sussex County League Division One table.

Sidley, for whom goalkeeper Greg Nessling is a fitness doubt, will be seeking a measure of revenge having lost 5-1 in a league fixture away to Shoreham during September. The winners will face Peacehaven & Telscombe in the semi-finals.

Sussex Division Two high-flyers Common will be out to spring a surprise against Division One title hopefuls East Preston and set up a last four tie against the aforementioned Peacehaven.

Common knocked out one high-riding Division One side in Hassocks in round two and took Crowborough Athletic, who are already through to the semi-finals, to penalties in the Sussex Senior Cup.

Rye United will continue their Sussex Division One campaign at home to Crowborough. Seventh-placed Rye thrashed mid-table Crowborough three times last season and beat them again in August’s reverse fixture.

Bexhill United are at home to Eastbourne United AFC in Sussex Division Two. Seventh-placed Bexhill are seven points and four positions behind their visitors, with whom they fought out a 2-2 draw in August’s reverse fixture.

The games involving Rye, Sidley and Bexhill kick-off at 7.45pm, while Common’s match gets under way at 7.15pm.
