The Pirates lost 2-1 at home to fellow Sussex County Football League Division Two side Broadbridge Heath in round two of the county knockout competition.

Jake Holmes gave Heath a half time lead and although Jacob Shelton levelled with his first Bexhill goal shortly after the hour, Holmes won it for the visitors in the 78th minute.

It’s the second cup that Bexhill have exited at the first hurdle this season following their penalty shoot-out loss away to Storrington in the John O’Hara League Challenge Cup back in August.

They are still in the Division Two Challenge Cup, however, having beaten Seaford Town in extra-time to set up a quarter-final against crosstown rivals Little Common and they have a Sussex Senior Cup first round tie away to Mile Oak on Wednesday of next week.

See Friday’s Bexhill Observer for a full report and reaction.

As previously reported, Rye United’s game at home to Shoreham in Sussex Division One was abandoned after 10 minutes due to a floodlight failure at The Salts.
