Bexhill United produce another outstanding display of attacking football

Bexhill United followed up last week's 3-0 victory on the opening day of the season at fellow promotion rivals Wick with another outstanding display of attacking football in a 1-6 win at Oakwood in the Southern Combination football League Division One on Saturday.

Bexhill with new summer signings Charlie Curran, Even Archibald and Darius Dosieah in the starting line up along with loanee goalkeeper Ricardo Teixeira who was deputising for the injured Dan Rose, started brightly but found themselves 1-0 down after a quarter of an hour when a long throw-in caused some confusion in the Bexhill penalty area and the ball was poked home from close range.

Shooting up the slope Bexhill began to look far more of a threat as the half went on with wide men Jack McLean and Charlie Curran both causing their full backs huge problems. The equaliser duly arrived when a long clearance from Teixeira fell to Archibald 20 yards from goal and with the keeper off his line executed a sublime lob to draw the away side level. The go ahead goal wasn’t far away and a sustained period of pressure on the Oakwood goal saw Kyle Holden react first in the box from a Jamie Bunn corner and connect well to put Bexhill in front at Half Time.

The second half got underway with Bexhill now shooting down the slope and it was pretty much one way traffic as the visitors moved the ball from side to side and combined well to open the home sides defence up almost at will. Bexhill’s third goal was scored through sheer desire by the clubs new number 9 Archibald who worked hard to chase down and dispossess an Oakwood defender before battling past the last defender in his way and finishing in style low to the keepers right.

Good chances were spurned to extend Bexhill’s lead further with Charlie Curran failing to convert on two occasions when one on one with the goal keeper. Not to be deterred the young Bexhill number seven then played a big part in goal number four with a perfectly timed through ball into the path of Mclean who converted expertly.

By this stage the home side despite their best efforts where struggling to make any significant mark on the Bexhill goal as the visitors seemed to find another gear and some excellent football saw Curran released down the Bexhill right and whilst well placed to score himself he unselfishly played the ball across the box and it was finished neatly past the keeper by the arriving Holden for his second of the game.

With the clock ticking down the final goal of the afternoon arrived when once again a pin point delivery from Charlie Curran fell to the feet of 16 year old Aaron Cook who had been pulling the strings in the Bexhill midfield since his arrival at Half Time and with a lot still to do to he guided the ball into the bottom corner to score his first competitive senior goal for the club.

There was still time for a chance of a seventh to go begging as Mclean beat his defender and with just the keeper to beat it was a save with his outstretched leg that denied Bexhill on this occasion.

Manager Ryan Light said: "Really pleased with how we’ve started the season and how the players have continued the good habits and performances from the pre season games and implemented them a more pressurised situation.

"The energy and balance we have in the squad now with the new signings and the inclusion of some of the clubs hugely talented U18 players is looking very promising, but we know how difficult every game can be in this league and we are fully focused on the next game which is Wednesday night at home to Shoreham and trying our hardest to put some more points on the board."
