Boss bemoans attacking woes

The Pirates lost 1-0 away to Saltdean United in a drab Macron Store Sussex County Football League Division Two Challenge Cup first tie on Saturday.

Munday said: “Once again, against a poor side, we were poor in the final third. We can’t say we deserved to win because I felt we didn’t create enough to deserve the win.

Bexhill have scored just twice in their last three matches following their second defeat to Saltdean - who are third-from-bottom of the league - in the space of 19 days.

“We’re training on Wednesday so we can tell people a few home truths and see what their reaction is going to be,” continued Munday. “It’s not been good enough for about five games going forward so big improvements need to be made.”

With Munday and assistant manager Andy Atkin both featuring in the starting line-up, Anthony Cooper and Nathan Tudor helped run things from the dug-out.

The only goal of the game came in the 39th minute from Saltdean’s Michael Page after a free kick bounced in the sort of area where the goalkeeper might have claimed it.

Bexhill threw a bit more at Saltdean in the second half without being all over them and fashioned a few chances from set-pieces. Atkin hit the post with a 67th minute header and substitute Linton Rogers had an effort ruled out for offside, a decision which Munday strongly disagreed with.
