Bridges draw keeps title race alive

Last night (Tuesday) was a good one for Rye United on two fronts.

Not only did the Quarterboys clinch the Sussex RUR Charity Cup with a 2-0 win over Selsey, but their Sussex County Football League title hopes also received a boost.

Three Bridges would have clinched the Division One championship with a win at home to Peacehaven & Telscombe, but the Crawley side twice had to come from behind to salvage a 2-2 draw.

It means that Rye will clinch top spot for the first time in their history if they pick up all three points away to Bridges in a last game title shootout on Saturday.

Top three standings (all played 37 matches): 1 Three Bridges 86pts (+37 goal difference), 2 RYE UNITED 84 (+56), 3 Lancing 83 (+45).
