Clubs waging tug-of-war over Dixon

Ryman Football League Premier Division outfit Hastings and Sussex County League Division One side Rye are both claiming the ball-playing midfielder will be turning out for them during the coming campaign.

Rye manager Scott Price said in last week’s Observer Sport that Dixon had committed to Rye, who he helped to a runners-up finish in the league and an FA Vase quarter-final last season.

Hastings chairman Dave Walters and manager Jason Hopkinson this week claimed Dixon had pledged his allegiance to them, although Price still expects the 20-year-old to represent Rye.

Walters said: “Jack Dixon has agreed terms and signed for the club on Monday evening, although contract talks are ongoing. We are delighted Jack has returned to the club and feel sure he is going to have a big impact.”

Dixon has been training and playing in friendly matches for both clubs during pre-season, yet wore a Rye shirt when both clubs were in action on Tuesday, last week.

Price said: “He’s told me he’s staying at Rye and you can only believe what they (players) say. We’ll see, but I expect him to stay.”
