Common continue top three bid

There is one local football fixture tonight (Wednesday) with Little Common hosting Southwick in a rearranged fixture following Saturday’s postponement.

The cancellation means Common haven’t played since their eventful 3-2 win over Eastbourne United AFC last Tuesday night, but nothing less than a win will do against a 14th-placed Southwick side which has won just once in its last 10 Sussex County Football League Division Two games.

Common, meanwhile, continue their assault on the top three, although Eastbourne United’s weekend win over Littlehampton Town has made their task a touch more difficult.

Russell Eldridge’s men sit fourth, six points behind United, but with two games in hand and a considerably better goal difference. Kick-off at the Recreation Ground is 7.30pm.

The two reserve fixtures scheduled for tonight - Rye United versus Lancing and Sidley United against Southwick - have both been called-off due to the state of the playing surfaces. The Sidley match, in fact, has been awarded as a goalless draw.
