Common won 5-0 at home to Saltdean United in Sussex County Football League Division Two, but Westfield were beaten 3-2 away to Oakwood in a Division Two Challenge Cup quarter-final.

Steve Morris gave Common a ninth minute lead with an emphatic finish into the far corner. Saltdean probably had the better of the play during the remainder of the first half, but Russell Eldridge doubled Common’s advantage with a shot from outside the box in the 39th minute.

Common stepped up a gear after the break and ran away with the match. A delightful James Vaughan free kick made it 3-0 in the 51st minute and Lewis Hole went through to add number four just two minutes later. Hole rounded-off the scoring in the 66th minute after the ball broke kindly for him.

Westfield missed out on a potential semi-final against neighbours Bexhill United following a narrow defeat away to Crawley-based Oakwood. Tom Archer and Mike Booth scored Westfield’s goals.
