Ex-England star to manage parks side

Peter Reid, who won 13 England caps and played in the 1986 World Cup, will manage Robertsbridge’s second team at home to Battle Baptists III on Saturday February 28.

After the Macron East Sussex Football League Division Six game, the 58-year-old will head along to Robertsbridge Club for a question and answer session with football club and Robertsbridge Club members, plus invited guests.

As a player, defensive midfielder Reid made well over 500 appearances for the likes of Bolton Wanderers, Everton and Manchester City from 1974-1995, and was the PFA Players’ Player of the Year in 1985.

Reid has spent much of the last 25 years in management with clubs such as Manchester City, Sunderland, Leeds United and Coventry City, as well as the Thailand national team. Last September he was appointed manager of Mumbai City in India.

In other Robertsbridge news, the club is holding a quiz night at Robertsbridge Club on Saturday February 21 from 7.30pm. The quiz is for teams of up to six players at £2 each.

Then on Saturday March 28, the club is holding a race night at the same venue. Race sponsors are being sought at £25 per race and prize sponsors at £20. More details are to follow, but interested parties should email Alan Apps on [email protected] for more information.
