Common started the competitive season with a win in the FA Cup and two draws in the SCFL Premier Division - the latest being a 1-1 draw with AFC Uckfield Toown on Tuesday night.

And now Eldridge and his men are looking forward to a trip to Stansfeld tomorrow (Saturday) in the FA Cup preliminary round.

And despite only getting draws in the first two league games, Eldridge says there are plenty of positives take from the first three games.

He said: “The first few competitive games have given us plenty to build on and there have certainly been more positives than negatives and we just need to stay focused on what we do and continue to work hard.

“FA Cup weekend is always exciting and it will provide us with a different challenge, travelling away from home to play opponents that we know very little about.”

Looking back the East Preston draw on the opening game of the season last Saturday, Eldridge said: “Saturday’s game at East Preston was one of mixed emotions and all three results were possible.

“I thought in the first half we played well despite finding ourselves two goals down, but the boys showed good spirit to come back and had we had 11 players on the pitch, we would have probably won the game - Lewis Parsons performed well and his desire is infectious on the team.

“We created good opportunities which we failed to convert, they threatened as the game became more open but we defended well.”

And in the midweek they were ultimately pleased to come away with a point.

Eldridge said: “Once we settled, we looked dangerous with both Sam Ellis and Freddie Warren looking threatening from the wings. We tried to implement our game plan on a tricky surface and all in all we pleased with the point having come from behind again.”
