Feast of football in Bexhill tonight

Three senior football matches are scheduled to take place in Bexhill tonight (Wednesday).

Sidley United are due to host Hailsham Town, Bexhill United are set to entertain Eastbourne United AFC and Little Common take on Westfield.

Sidley will be delighted that their game is on because it’s been three long weeks since they last kicked a ball in anger and they’ve played just three times since November 17.

After a slow start to the season, Hailsham have won four and drawn one of their last six Sussex County Football League Division One games to move above 16th-placed Sidley on goal difference with two games in hand.

Sidley were 1-0 winners over a weakened Hailsham side in a forgettable reverse fixture on September 11. Tonight’s match will get under way from 7.45pm at Gullivers. Chris Rea and Kevin Rose are suspended for the Blues.

Bexhill and Eastbourne United are also locked together on the same points tally in Division Two, although fourth-placed United have the edge on goal difference and have played a game fewer.

The teams fought out a 2-2 draw in the reverse fixture on the August bank holiday and have lost just three league matches between them all season.

Eastbourne have won their last four league games, but their most recent outing was back on December 15. Bexhill will be boosted by their Boxing Day derby victory over Little Common. Kick-off at The Polegrove is 7.45pm.

Third-placed Common will seek an instant response to their defeat against Bexhill as they face a seventh-placed Westfield side which hasn’t played since December 8.

Common were 1-0 winners in the reverse fixture on the August bank holiday thanks to one of Jamie Crone’s 24 goals so far this term. Kick-off at the Recreation Ground tonight is 7.45pm.
