Festive derby could be back on

There might well be a Boxing Day football derby between Bexhill United and Little Common after all.

The original fixtures released at the end of June had Bexhill down to visit Seaford Town on December 26 and Common at home to Westfield.

But a revised list published last Wednesday has Common versus Westfield on Monday August 29 and Seaford against Bexhill on Wednesday August 17.

Although the festive games have yet to be revealed (the matches announced so far only go up to the end of this month), it looks likely that Bexhill and Common will meet at Christmas.

The cross-town rivals went head-to-head on Boxing Day and Easter Monday last season with Bexhill winning the first game at The Polegrove 4-0 and Common clinching the return by the same margin.

Common’s opening day opponents have also been changed. Mark Linch’s side was due to visit East Preston on Saturday August 13, but instead they will be going to Southwick - just as they did last term.

Bexhill are still beginning their Sussex County League Division Two campaign at Loxwood and Sidley United will start their Division One programme, as previously stated, with a trip to Three Bridges.

Westfield’s first outing will still be at home to Rustington, although Rye United will head to Horsham YMCA in their Division One opener rather than East Grinstead Town.
