Goalkeeper suffers injury woe

In the Premier Division, Ore Athletic’s delight at their 3-2 win away to Peche Hill Select was tempered by a bad injury to goalkeeper Harry Cawkhill, who is now facing a long rehabilitation after suffering a suspected broken leg.


The game was really secondary after this, with Athletic almost squandering the 3-0 lead they had built up after a late Select comeback. Grant Cornelius scored one in each half for the visitors, while Orlando Correia stretched the lead to three just after the hour mark. Ashley O’Prey started the Select fightback from the penalty spot and Matt Maclean on his debut popped in a second with 10 minutes left.

Top flight leaders St Leonards Social made it 11 wins out of 11 by defeating Rock-a-Nore 4-2 aided by a peach of an own goal after just 10 minutes.


Colton Alleyne-Davis put Social two-up on the half-hour, Jack Richardson extended the lead further soon after half time and Brett Patton fired in a fourth. Wes Irving pulled one back with a spectacular bicycle kick and Kale Williams added a second for the Rocks.


Ninfield United gained a very important 3-1 win at home to Sedlescombe Rangers, which propelled them out of the relegation zone on goal difference.


They had to do it the hard way, though, after coming back from a 1-0 half time deficit inflicted by a 15th minute strike from Toby Hicks. James Mott levelled just before the hour mark, Nathan Russell then fired the hosts in front and Mott grabbed his second with eight minutes left to kill the game off.

Hollington United II eventually won 7-6 in an extraordinary Division One game against Little Chelsea after almost squandering a 7-1 lead.


Mark Larkin banged in five goals for the visitors, while John Steele and Dean Fox also scored to give Hollington what looked like an unassailable advantage.


The hosts produced a magnificent fightback, though, which almost snatched them a fantastic draw. Somewhat unusually, two players, namely Joe Morris and Joe Haffenden, scored hat-tricks and still ended up on the losing side.
