Ham transfer saga takes surprise twist

Last week it appeared as though Ham was heading for Westfield, but he signed for Sidley United on Monday night and played for the Blues against Westfield on Wednesday.

Despite scoring in Bexhill’s 1-1 draw at home to Eastbourne United AFC 10 days ago, Ham reiterated to the team’s joint managers afterwards that he would be leaving the club.

Ham, who joined Bexhill in the summer after scoring 16 goals for Little Common last season, had already approached Westfield about moving to them and even trained with them last week.

Bexhill insisted on a seven-day letter from Westfield, who would have had to wait until this Wednesday before making the approach as FA rules dictate that there must be 28 days between two enquiries to the same club. Westfield expressed an interest in Liam Miles late last month.

Bexhill asked Ham if he would be available for their game at Mile Oak on Saturday, but he told them he would be celebrating his 21st birthday with his family and wasn’t feeling 100 per cent following dental surgery.

They later found out, however, that the attacking player was a substitute for Burgess Hill Town in their FA Trophy first round qualifying tie at Hythe Town which they lost 1-0. Ham then dual-registered with Sidley.
