Harris expects club to stay up

The village club is 12th in Sussex County League Division Two with one match remaining after winning three and drawing four of its nine league games since the cold snap in early February.

Westfield ensured they would avoid the two relegation places over the Easter weekend, but with the two teams to go down almost certain to be decided by facilities rather than finishing positions, that wasn’t the end of it.

The next target was to end up above Little Common and Midhurst & Easebourne - two teams, like themselves, Westfield thought may be in danger of not meeting the ground grading criteria - and they have now achieved that too.

Asked if he expects to stay up, joint manager Tony Harris said: “I think so. From my point of view, we’re out of the bottom two and we’re above two teams who in our understanding haven’t got the ground grading.

“I would like to think we’ll be in county two next season and that was my objective when things started to change in the season. There’s so much ambiguity over the ground grading. We’re at the back end of the season and no-one knows what’s going to happen.”
