Hastings eye fast start to 2013

Hastings United will seek to kick-off 2013 with a bang at home to Lewes tomorrow (New Year’s Day).

After six successive Ryman Football League Premier Division draws, the U’s will be gunning for victory in an East Sussex derby at The Pilot Field.

The U’s are fourth-from-bottom of the table following Saturday’s 2-2 draw at second-from-bottom Wingate & Finchley, although they do have games in hand on everyone in the division bar third-from-bottom Thurrock.

In fact, a win tomorrow would put United within four points of 13th-placed Lewes having played five fewer matches. Lewes will make the short journey still smarting from a 2-1 loss at home to Thurrock at the weekend.

The sides have met once at The Pilot Field already this season with United winning a Ryman League Cup second round tie 1-0 thanks to a spectacular effort from Scott McDonald.

Kick-off tomorrow is 3pm and if you can’t make it to the game, follow @SimonNewstead on Twitter for regular updates.

It will be United’s final outing before they head to Championship high-flyers Middlesbrough in round three of the FA Cup on Saturday and any supporters still wishing to buy tickets for The Riverside will be able to do so from 1pm.
