Hastings United missed the chance to move into the play-off places after losing 1-0 away to Godalming Town.

United were beaten 1-0 against already relegated Godalming Town in Ryman Football League Division One South, failing to score in an away game for the first time all season.

The result has seen United drop a place to seventh in the table - two positions and one point outside the all-important top five with five matches remaining. The gap could be more than one point if fifth-placed Carshalton Athletic get a result away to Guernsey tomorrow.

United goalkeeper Lenny Pidgeley went off injured after a lengthy stoppage in the first half and was replaced by Ryan Nicholls.

Godalming got the only goal in the 35th minute. The ball bounced over Nicholls and crossed the line despite his efforts to recover, Matthew Bunyan the scorer.

United gave a debut to Danny Leonard as a second half substitute, but an equaliser proved elusive and they now have much work to do if they’re to make the top five.

United: Pidgeley (Nicholls), Akoto (Stannard), Cruttwell, Emptage, Sobers, Rowe, Bodkin, Johnson, Barnwell, Collin, Hughes-Mason (Leonard). Sub not used: Smith. Attendance: 120.
