Hastings notch up first victory

Hastings United secured their first victory and scored their first goals of their pre-season programme on Tuesday night.

After three defeats without finding the target, the Ryman League Premier Division outfit won 3-0 at home to Sussex County League Division One side Sidley United.

A Freddie Foreman free kick gave Hastings a half time lead which they built on through second half strikes by Arron Hopkinson and Mark West, but the home goalkeeper made two fantastic saves from Lewis Hole.

Elsewhere last night, Rye United began their warm-up matches with a 3-1 success away to New Romney thanks to goals from Jack Dixon, Scott Ramsay and Andy Hales.

Bexhill United produced a decent performance and considered themselves unfortunate to go down 2-1 at Combined Counties League team Banstead Athletic. Warren Parsons gave Bexhill a first half lead.

And a Westfield side missing up to nine players lost 5-0 away to a strong East Grinstead Town team. See Friday’s Observers for all the latest news from the area’s senior football clubs.
