Hastings sink Staines in FA Cup

HASTINGS United booked their place in the next round of the FA Cup with a superb 3-2 win away to higher grade Staines Town.

A double strike from Bradley Goldberg and Dee Okojie’s first goal for the club saw the U’s triumph in this second qualifying round tie.

Hastings, whose coach had taken more than three hours to negotiate the trip to Wheatsheaf Park, suffered an early blow when striker Zac Attwood’s return from injury was cut short after only 10 minutes and he had to be replaced by Okojie.

Blue Square Bet South Staines took the lead just before the half hour when a long throw was flicked on and Tony Garrod made no mistake.

Goldberg came close with an effort against the crossbar before levelling things up late in the half after great work by Bailo Camara.

Goldberg struck again within five minutes of the start of the second period and then Okojie headed home at the far post from a Matt Whitehead cross.

Staines pulled one back through David Wheeler to set up a grandstand finish but Hastings held on to book their place in Monday’s draw.
