Hastings tackle Newhaven in final friendly

Hastings United will finalise their preparations for the coming Ryman Football League Division One South season at Newhaven tonight (Tuesday), kick-off 7.45pm.

United will look to improve on the 1-1 draw at Crowborough Athletic, like Newhaven from Sussex County League Division One, in their penultimate friendly on Saturday.

In a game of few chances, Sam Adams opened the scoring for United with a deflected strike but Sammy Carrington levelled from the spot after Tom Gilbert was adjudged to have handled in the box.

Sean Ray’s men will travel to Chipstead on Saturday as they begin life in Division One South following their painful relegation from the Premier Division last season. Their first home game of the new term will be against Walton Casuals next Monday.

Several of the locality’s Sussex County League sides will also conclude their warm-up games tonight. Division One outfit Rye United will take on a Tonbridge Angels XI in a hastily arranged match at Hadlow College in Tonbridge, kick-off 7pm.

Westfield are away to Ryman Division One South side Eastbourne Town and Bexhill United, like Westfield from Sussex Division Two, are due to face Peacehaven & Telscombe.
