Lights go out on Rye

Rye United’s game at home to Newhaven last night (Tuesday) was abandoned because of a floodlight failure.

Having gone out once at half time, the lights failed for a second time just after the hour and the Sussex County Football League Division One match was then abandoned.

Rye were leading 1-0 despite being down to 10 men at the time play was halted. It’s the second floodlight failure at The Salts this season after the same thing happened during the visit from Shoreham in October.

Rye, who have 16 league games still to play (the joint most in the division), are due to be back on home soil tomorrow night against second-bottom Hailsham Town.

More to follow.
